Week 8 | Day 4 – A BURDEN FOR TRUTH – Romans 10:1-4

Paul aches for Israel to be saved. He honors their zeal, but grieves that it’s misdirected—aimed at earning righteousness instead of receiving it. God’s righteousness is not a ladder we climb; it’s a gift we receive. In Jesus, the Law reaches its finish line—its goal and fulfillment—so that everyone who believes is made right with God.

APPLICATION

1 - Retire the “Good Person” Myth

Good compared to whom? While there may be good in you, God doesn’t measure our lives by our goodness or morality, but by His holiness—and because of sin… we all fall short. Instead of comparing yourself with the goodness in others—flee to the cross where grace, not goodness, saves.

2 - Trade Performance for Trust
When you fail, do you double down on trying harder—or do you turn to Jesus? Repent of any sense of self-reliance and rest instead, in His finished work on the cross.

3 - Let the Law Lead You to Jesus
Remember, the purpose of the Law was never to save but instead, it’s intended purpose was to expose the sin in our lives and the sinful nature within. As such, we must use conviction as a runway to Christ—not a treadmill of guilt and shame.

4 - Keep the Gospel Simple
Salvation cannot ever be earned—it is a gift that can only be received by faith in Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection—for anyone and everyone who believes.

5 - Pray with Names
Like Paul, carry specific people before God by name. Ask for open eyes to see Jesus as the only Savior.

PRAYER

Lord, my heart’s desire and prayer is that many would be saved no matter who they are, where they’re from, or what they have done. So, rescue us from the lie that Your favor can be earned. Let Your Law show us our sin, and let Your gospel show us our Savior. Help me—and those I love—to stop trusting our morality to save us and to keep our salvation and to submit to Your righteousness in Christ. May we realize and never forget that there is no Plan B—and that Jesus is the only way, the truth, and the life—and Your grace is only received by faith. Amen.
