Week 9 | Day 2 – HEARING BUT NOT HEARING – Romans 10:16-21

Paul reminds us that saving faith is birthed when we hear (akoē) the Gospel and then respond to the revelation (rhema) the Holy Spirit provides to open our understanding to God’s truth—the spoken, applied, revealed word of God. While Scripture is God’s written logos and Jesus is the Logos incarnate—the Holy Spirit takes this logos and makes it living and personal, convicting us to believe and guiding us day by day for salvation and for living the Christian life. As a result, the Christian life is not lived by what our eyes see, but by what our hearts hear from God in his Word—faith by sound.

APPLICATION

1 - Posture Your Spiritual Ears to Hear

Build a daily habit of unhurried Scripture intake (read, meditate, memorize) and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the principles and precepts of the logos into your daily life and decision making. Ask the Spirit, “What are You saying to me in my circumstances—what rhema do I need to obey today?

2 - Test Every ‘word’ by the Word

You can be confident that the Holy Spirit will never speak contrary to the logos. The Spirit’s rhema will never contradict Jesus’ example and teachings or the Scriptures. So, test the spirits and weigh every spiritual impression against the Bible—and seek wise counsel.

3 - Obey Promptly

Faith grows not just by hearing but by heeding. Take one concrete step of obedience whenever God speaks rhema into your life.

4 - Pray for Illumination

Before you read, pray, “Lord, open my ears and eyes to Your truth.” (see Psalm 119:18). Ask the Lord to help you to trust the Spirit to make Christ’s Word clear and compelling.

5 - Live by Sound, not Sight

When circumstances look bleak, rehearse what you’ve heard from God in the Gospel. Let Christ’s Word, not your feelings, set your direction.

PRAYER

Lord, tune my heart to Your voice. I confess how easily I walk by sight and in my own understanding. By Your Spirit, take Your logos and speak a fresh rhema to my soul—convicting, comforting, and directing me. Make me quick to hear and quick to obey, that my steps today would seek first Your kingdom and display Your glory. Through Jesus Christ, the living Word. Amen.
